Photo blogging contest 2013

One thing that I love about travelling is it lets you be creative in so many different ways, and this couldn’t be more evident than with photography. The travel writer Paul Theroux once said, “even two people going to exactly the same place, travelling at the same time, will come back with two different stories,” and this is the same with photography. People see different things, just as they react differently to their settings and surroundings.

I have to admit, there are few things in life that make me happier than wandering around a new country with my music in my ears and my camera around my neck; that’s when I’m at my most creative, and I would like to think my photography reflects that.

When I saw ‘Capture the Colour’ contest on one of my favourite photo blogs, Canvas of Light by Daniel Nahabedian, I wanted to enter to showcase some of my work 0n why I love travelling and photography so much.

The rules are simple – all you have to do is choose your favourite photo that represents one of the following colours – green, red, blue, white and yellow – and publish a post on your blog.

I found going through my photos, choosing the right one for the right colour, nearly as much fun as taking them. Of course, let me know what you think of them in the comments below!

Green Tree Frog – This photo was taken up in Cairns, Australia. While sitting outside one night, this green tree frog jumped onto the porch and perched on a post for ten minutes. With the white post and the black night sky behind, I knew this was a perfect opportunity to really capture the bright green of the frog’s skin.

The Great Roller Coaster Ride in the Sky – This photo was taken on the Gold Coast, Australia. I took my camera with me on a Tiger Moth Joy Ride, and the views over Surfers Paradise were simply spectacular. I love the contrast between the red and blue in this shot, and the wing almost acts like a colour divide.

A Boy in Borneo – This photo was taken on Mabul, Borneo. At the time I was diving in Mabul and Sipadan, and while on a surface interval in-between dives, this little boy came over selling lobster. As the water was only 3ft deep, I quickly grabbed my camera and jumped in. I just love how the boy seems larger than life.

White Falls – This photo was taken in Plitvice National Park, Croatia. When everyone swans off to Croatia each summer, it’s rare for them to leave the delightful Dalmatian coast, but with Plitvice National Park you’ve got a reason too. I love how the white of the waterfalls really pops out in this photo, one of the best I took that day.

A Golden Temple – This photo was taken at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. I actually spent about 12 hours at the Golden Temple, wandering around and capturing it in different lights. This one Sikh caught my eye and I knew I wanted a shot of him, so I put myself in the perfect position and waited for the opportunity; I didn’t have to wait long before I got took this photo.

Entrants are asked to nominate five other bloggers. I’ve turned to the trusty #TravelLads as I know they’ve taken some amazing photos on their travels. These are:
